NY Metro Chapter: Chromebook Forensics

Tuesday, May 17, 2022 (2:00 PM - 3:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Chromebook Forensics

Chromebook sales have risen dramatically year-over-year with a 68.6% increase for the 2nd Quarter of 20211. We will look at acquisition capabilities as well as data availability. In this presentation we will explore the data available from a Google Takeout and a Google Chromebook logical acquisition using the Daniel Dickerman method and compare the available data detailing the data locations for both sources. The goal of this research is demonstrating that there are artifacts available from the Google Chromebook that are not available from cloud-based acquisitions, such as a Google Takeout. We hope that this research will encourage digital forensic examiners to acquire data from Chromebooks when conducting forensic examinations.
