Speaker:  Patrick Curtin

Bio:  Patrick Curtin is the Director of Technical Sales at Field Effect, an Ottawa-based cyber security firm that he joined in 2021.  Before joining Field Effect, he served for 16 years at the Communications Security Establishment, most notably as the security operations center manager from 2011-2015 and Director of the organization's Advanced Capability Development Centre from 2018-2021. Patrick also worked at two networking start ups and started his career as a communications engineer in the Canadian Armed Forces.  This period included operational deployments to central Africa, Haiti and the Middle East.  

Patrick is a Professional Engineer holding bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering.

Presentation:  This session will consist of two cybercrime case studies - one will focus on a particular high profile European compromise that occurred in 2021 and will include an examination of the victim organization's readiness, the threat actor, the attack timeline and opportunities for prevention.  The second case study will demonstrate a threat actor that breached numerous major corporations in 2022 that will cover the organizations breached, the threat actor and actions they took, and the opportunities for prevention.
