Topic: Introduction to Open Source Intelligence

Presenter:  Chris Pierre, CISSP, CFE, Managing Dir. - The KeyNorth Group

Bio: Chris is the Managing Director of KeyNorth Professional Services Group Inc. an Ottawa based investigations and intelligence solutions firm that was incorporated in 2008. Chris is an experienced Open Source Intelligence professional, investigator, consultant and trainer.  

He has assisted numerous public and private sector organizations in identifying risks through intelligence gathering, investigating incidents after the fact, and training their people to be better investigators. He has extensive experience in investigations relating to corruption, investor and lender fraud, litigation support and insider threats.

Chris is also a seasoned instructor in the use of Open-Source Intelligence (“OSINT”) training for law enforcement, regulatory and public sector agencies across Canada.

Chris holds a BA in Political Science from Carleton University and designations as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

He is an active member of the community in Toronto and Ottawa having previously served as Co-Chair of the McGee-Clark Fundraiser for St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto which raised over $234,000 for St. Mikes, Past-Vice President of the Board of the Ottawa Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Past-President of the Ottawa Chapter of the High Tech Crime Investigators and he was a Carleton University Alumni Mentor. He is currently on the board of the Business Advisory Committee providing advice to the City of Ottawa’s ByWard Market District Authority.

Topic Description: This session will introduce fundamental concepts relating to open source intelligence, including a background on OSINT, intelligence vs. evidence in the OSINT context, OSINT applications in investigations and an overview of certain OSINT techniques.
